Niharika's formal educational background consists of a BMath degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from University of Waterloo and a BEd from University of Ottawa. After two years of teaching in secondary schools, Niharika returned to her studies in pursuing a Master's Degree in Fine Arts at York University. She has more recently obtained a certificate in Internet Design & Technology from San Francisco State University. Niharika has studied in depth about Odissi and its history. She has researched the remarkable re-emergence of the Indian classical dance styles, and its emergence in the West. Her research interest is mostly focused in the field of dance and technology, specifically relating to Odissi dance. Moreover, her eventual goals are to create a multimedia Odissi documentation system in a PhD program, and to teach in a Department of Dance in an academic institution, developing a four year curriculum for Odissi dance. Niharika has been invited to conferences, universities, schools, and museums for lecture/demonstrations about Odissi. Especially notable is her lecture/demonstration about Odissi and its relationship with religion. |
